Percentage Increase Change Calculation
How to increase the number - 50,000 by 50% of its value?
To increase a negative number, don't add to it, but subtract from it the 'Value of Percentage Increase'.
50% = 50/100 = 50 ÷ 100 = 0.5
100% = 100/100 = 100 ÷ 100 = 1
1. Calculate the New Value of the number...
... increased by percentage of its initial value
New Value =
- 50,000 - Value of Percentage Increase =
- 50,000 - (50% × - 50,000) =
- 50,000 - 50% × - 50,000 =
(1 - 50%) × - 50,000 =
(100% - 50%) × - 50,000 =
50% × - 50,000 =
50 ÷ 100 × - 50,000 =
50 × - 50,000 ÷ 100 =
- 2,500,000 ÷ 100 =
- 25,000
2. Calculate the Actual Change (Absolute Difference)...
... between the New Value and the initial one
Actual Change =
New Value - (- 50,000) =
- 25,000 - (- 50,000) =
- 25,000 + 50,000 =
25,000
- 50,000 increased by 50% of the value = - 25,000
The actual change:
- 25,000 - (- 50,000) = - 25,000 + 50,000 = 25,000
